8-City Reliant Energy Torch Relay Across Texas
More than 1,200 of the 10,000 athletes expected to compete in the Summer National Senior Games will be Texans. The 8-cityReliant Energy Torch Relay Across Texas tour will allow many of them to carry the Fitness Flame torch near where they live. They will also represent the official theme of Long Live the Challenge and promote wellness and healthy aging to their friends and neighbors. Others devoted to lifelong fitness, dignitaries, celebrities, and representatives of our relay sponsor Reliant Energy will also participate.
Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham will light the Fitness Flame torch and take the first lap around the Saturn V exhibit in Rocket Park at Johnson Space Center to set the theme. The flame will be captured and transported in miner’s lamps and each city relay will be lit from this flame. The tour will feature daily “orbital activity” at interesting settings around the state where everyone can share their torch experience and participate in a recognition event at the close of each activity.
