Have your Gotten Your Flu Shot?
Flu shots are available every day in many Southeast Texas locations including Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and every CVS store. so you can walk in at anytime and get yours. Also, for most locations insurance is accepted including Medicare Part B.
The flu and the common cold have similar symptoms and it can be hard to tell the difference between them, but in general, the flu is much worse. Watch for these symptoms this flu season and see your healthcare provider right away if you get any of them. Remember, seniors are more at risk in having flu complications, so don’t take any chances!
Flu Symptoms can include:
- A 100oF or higher fever or feeling feverish (not everyone that gets the flu has a fever, especially seniors)
- A cough and/or sore throat
- A runny or stuffy nose
- Headaches and/or body aches
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children)
Who should not get a Flue Shot?
- People who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs.
- People who have had a severe reaction to an influenza vaccination.
- People who developed Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) within 6 weeks of getting an influenza vaccine.
- Children younger than 6 months (influenza vaccine is not approved for this age group).
- People who have a moderate-to-severe illness with a fever. (They should wait until they recover to get vaccinated.)
