SETX Senior Activity: Painted Ladies of Crystal Beach Art Exhibit
Art lovers looking for a fun SETX Senior activity will head to the Beaumont Art League this March for a special exhibit: The Painted Ladies of Crystal Beach.
The exhibit will feature artwork by a local art group known as The Painted Ladies of Crystal Beach.
Many Southeast Texas senior artists know the artists, particularly if they’ve spend a lot of time in Crystal Beach.
Some members of this Southeast Texas art group have been painting together since 2004 on the Bolivar Peninsula.
The Painted Ladies of Crystal Beach have a tradition of meetingweekly on Thursday at the Faggard Community Center.
After Hurricane Ike devastated Crystal Beach, the Ladies decided to continue even though several members did not return to the area.
Members of the Painted Ladies of Crystal Beach use different mediums such as oil, acrylic, and watercolor.
Living on the Bolivar Peninsula is a daily inspiration for these Southeast Texas artists to create art from the natural surrounding beauty.
Their work has been shown in the local Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation, Galveston, and the Beaumont area at various benefits and exhibits.
In spite of having to rebuild their community the Ladies continue to move forward and enjoy their art.
After all, when you live in the Southeast Texas beach paradise of Crystal Beach, it’s easy to feel creative.
Artists from the Painted Ladies of Crystal Beach who will have work on exhibit include:
- Shirley Fischer
- Jammie Blackstock
- Alice Hurlbert
- June Peveto
